It took me a while to realize that judging others is simply an attempt to compare my situation/achievements to others. I scan the crowd, hoping for a few “wins” so that I feel superior (even if it’s just for a moment).
In 2nd grade, the person who read the most books got a gold star next to their name at the front of the classroom. I won. And I was hooked.
However, the sooner we accept our imperfections, the closer we get to becoming the person we were meant to be.
We’ve only got so much emotional energy available. Let’s not waste it in trivial matters.
I’m experiencing less stress, finding more joy, and uttering the phrase “Those people are idiots!” a lot less (although, it hasn’t been eliminated, idiots still do exist).

Despite the importance/size/relevance of each one, these choices are all driven by the same desire… control. Our goal with every decision is to maximize the likelihood of an outcome we desire.
