Silence is golden.
You’ve heard this phrase before, but few understand its meaning and even fewer live by it.
Our society is convinced that every moment needs to be filled with something.
Whether it’s our opinion, TV in the background, music, or scrolling through social media, we can’t imagine just sitting in silence.
It’s almost as though we believe life doesn’t exist unless it’s jam-packed with constant stimulation (or dare I say… achievement/accomplishment).
There’s nothing wrong with all this “noise” until it begins to have negative consequences.
These include stress, worry, aches, pains, and (believe it or not) chronic illness.
If you never struggle with any of the above, then by all means, listen to a podcast while you’re talking to your friend on the phone and scrolling through email.
However, if you’re like me and stress tends to creep in from time to time, maybe it’s time to invest in a little quiet.
