When life gives zero guarantees, how do you ensure no regrets?

<>

Steve Jobs once said: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”

Or in other words, we need to have faith – faith that our daily decisions are moving us in the right direction.

Which begs the question…. How do you know?

The answer is… you don’t. Life offers zero guarantees (except, of course, death and taxes).

Despite this uncertainty, we all need to identify something to inspire our daily behavior.

I just completed an interesting book (The Good Life Method by Notre Dame professors Meghan Sullivan and Paul Blaschko) that provides a thoughtful roadmap.

It posits that our choices in life should be heavily influenced by a handful of virtues (e.g., courage, honesty, kindness, justice, etc.).

It was a good reminder that while we can’t control the future, we can ensure our actions reflect timeless values.
