Most busy professionals (myself included) struggle with keeping their mouths shut.
We allow someone to get about halfway through their thought before we formulate our response and wait impatiently for them to finish.
Here are two simple techniques for improving in this area.
- Look the person in the eyes when they are talking.
- Wait one full second after they’re done before you respond. (Trust me, one second feels like an eternity for most.)
It’s also not a bad idea to repeat what they said to ensure you’re on the same page.
