It’s common for overachievers to have unrealistic expectations for themselves.

There’s a gap in each of our lives that determines the amount of joy we experience.
It represents the difference between what we expect out of life and how it actually turns out.
The larger the gap, the more discomfort we feel.
This discomfort is the result of unrealistic expectations.
We expect life to be easy, predictable, and purpose-driven.
When it turns out to be stressful, gloomy, and unfulfilling, we feel cheated. We sit in the gap our expectations have created and stew over how unfair life has become.
There’s a simple solution to this widening gap – practice accepting whatever life delivers just as it is without wishing it were different.
