Overachievers sometimes believe that multitasking makes them smarter or worth more. Here’s what it really says…

A few days ago, I was on a Teams meeting, barely participating.
I had my camera on (microphone muted) and spent the entire meeting checking email and working on other things.
Sound familiar?
We’ve all done it. Our rationale is that by logging on, we can check the “attendance” box while completing other work.
This may feel like a “win/win”, but it isn’t.
The “other” work we’re completing while pretending to participate is sloppy at best. It’s nearly impossible to deliver a quality product when you’re multi-tasking.
In addition, we’re missing out on an opportunity to collaborate with our peers and move projects forward. Worse, we’re offending others because they can tell we’d rather do something else.
It’s time we all committed to be in the moment and give it our full attention.
