The first 20 years went a lot faster than I thought.
Back in September of 2003, I was pounding out 75 cold calls a day as my son (Ian, now 6’6″) lay bouncing quietly in a baby seat at my feet.
Those days seemed to last forever.
20 years later, a few things have become crystal clear:
- Rejection is part of building a business – get used to it.
- Certainty is a myth – you can’t plan everything, no matter how hard you try.
- Your value is directly related to the size and complexity of the problems you solve.
- Money is a number on a piece of paper. It rarely brings you the joy you’re looking for.
Looking forward, I’d like to be intentional about a handful or key items.
One of those is changing the conversation around generosity.
Instead of an afterthought, I’d love to see us talk about generosity first.
