Believe it or not, that’s an improvement.
It took me a while to realize that judging others is simply an attempt to compare my situation/achievements to others. I scan the crowd, hoping for a few “wins” so that I feel superior (even if it’s just for a moment).
Luckily, now that I recognize this truth, I typically catch myself before sizing up the entire room. In that moment I remind myself that “This judgment never leaves me feeling any better – let it go.”
In today’s world, it’s tempting to believe that there’s a direct link between lasting joy and being “better” than others.
There isn’t and never will be.
