As a leader, embracing differences is imperative.
My son is a senior in high school, and it’s hard for me not to look at the next 10 years of his life and lay out the “perfect” career/life path.
It’s almost like an experiment to create a mini-me.
But, the important truth I remind myself daily is that he is a unique individual and will chart out his own distinct path, which might be the complete opposite of what I think he should consider.
It’s a jarring idea, especially when you’re considering your family and closest friends.
However, as leaders, it’s important that we help others achieve what’s important to them, regardless of our preferences.
Perhaps it’s time we try embracing our differences.
