Overachievers believe joy, peace, and contentment will come “as soon as…”
<>
Many people live their lives following the “As Soon As” Principle.
They believe that “I’ll spend more time with my family as soon as I have more time.”
Or maybe “I’ll donate more of my resources to those in need as soon as I have X saved in my 401k.”
And most of these people are certain that, “I’ll be able to slow down and enjoy life as soon as I make partner, sell my business, retire, etc.”
In a world obsessed with the next big thing, it’s easy to assume that a better future is on the other side of another accomplishment.
When you’re tempted to believe this lie remember these words from the American poet James Oppenheim,
“The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet.”
