Which is better to reduce your stress level: slowing down or speeding up?
<>
Lately, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the idea of pace – the speed with which I move through life.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt rushed in everything I do.
Whether it’s driving to work, walking through the airport, or simply eating a meal, I’ve always assumed that the quicker, the better.
However, I now find myself wondering about the value created by going fast.
This reflection has challenged me to slow down in subtle ways throughout my day.
What if you tried a simple experiment:
- Let someone else get in front of you in line at the coffee shop.
- Slow down as you approach an intersection instead of rushing to beat the light.
- Allow the conversation to unfold rather than pushing your agenda.
This new speed has had an interesting side effect – the slower I move, the easier it is to appreciate the moment.
And, as you’ve heard me say, the best way to experience joy is by living in the now.
I look forward to continuing this experiment and absorbing the wisdom it delivers.
