What will make you happiest: vacation, a new set of golf clubs, that promotion…?
<>
As a selfish human, I often find myself wondering… “How can I make my life more enjoyable?”
Should I schedule more vacations, take up golf, or maybe buy a new house?
Recently, during this daydreaming, I was reminded of the first sentence in Rick Warren’s bestselling book, The Purpose Driven Life.
“It’s not about you.”
I needed the reminder.
We (humans) have convinced ourselves that the best way to find happiness is through acquisition, recognition, or personal achievement.
Unfortunately, the contentment we experience with these accomplishments is fleeting at best. We spend seconds celebrating our annual bonus and move on to wondering what it will be next year.
Resist the non-stop competition for achievement and instead look outside yourself (faith, helping others who are less fortunate, etc.) to find happiness.
