There Is No Destination

Making subtle shifts in the way you approach life should deliver the lasting satisfaction you crave. Unfortunately, I’ve rarely seen it work out that way.

The truth is, for the rest of your life, you will always be working at becoming a better friend, spouse, parent, child, and/or leader.

There is no “arriving.” You’re either getting better or worse. There’s no such thing as maintaining the status quo.

You can take this truth and view it in two ways:

  1. Frustrated that there’s no magical time when you “arrive” at complete satisfaction.
  2. Choose to figure out the best way to enjoy the journey.

Once I realized that life was a grand expedition to be experienced rather than a contest to win, I began to see everything differently. I’ve started focusing on being present in the moment, noticing what is happening around me, and allowing it to “just be.”

While being very difficult in practice and horribly uncomfortable at times, this simple practice has made all the difference.
