The research is clear (and compelling): we’ve become addicted to constant interruptions.
When was the last time you let your mind drift aimlessly and simply noticed your surroundings?
The craving we feel for the next “hit” of stimulation isn’t all that different from an alcoholic longing for their next drink.
We tell ourselves that it’s not that bad because everyone is doing it.
Unfortunately, this behavior – like all addictions – has negative consequences both personally and professionally.
The good news is that we can do something about it that doesn’t require an expensive intervention.
Try this: the next time you’re standing in line or sitting in a waiting room, don’t touch your phone.
