“To know and not to do is really not to know.” – Stephen Covey
I’ve reminded audiences of this truth hundreds of times in my career.
Unfortunately, I haven’t always embraced and learned from its message.
Too often, I put down a book and think, “Wow, I can’t wait to put these lessons into practice.”
That’s when it gets difficult.
Learning something new is easy. For example, scroll through LinkedIn for 10 minutes and you’re bound to trip across a bunch of useful professional advice.
But, as Dr. Covey pointed out, jamming your brain full of new information that you’ll eventually forget is a far cry from changing your behavior.
The kind of change we’re looking for requires work.
The key is daily intentional practice on a few areas (less than 3, preferably 1) in your life that need improvement.
