We live in a society obsessed with accomplishment.
Our heroes are professional athletes, celebrities, and social media influencers.
We’ve convinced ourselves that individual achievement is the surest path to success and that this alone will make us happy.
Unfortunately, this momentary “success” rarely leads to meaningful fulfillment. No matter how big of a mountain we climb, it’s never enough.
This truth (sometimes referred to as the hedonistic paradox) begs the question… How can one find lasting joy?
While there’s no easy answer, bestselling author David Brooks provides us with an interesting place to start looking:
“Day to day we seek out pleasure, but deep down, human beings are endowed with moral imagination. All human beings seek to lead lives not just of pleasure, but of purpose, righteousness, and virtue.” – The Road to Character by David Brooks
